🌱 Grape Varieties : More than 30 traditional Douro grape varieties, sourced from old vines and more recent single-varietal vineyards located in Cima Corgo, mainly in the valleys of the Torto and Pinhão rivers.
🛠️ Winemaking : The grapes are foot-trodden before and during fermentation. When the must is ready for the addition of grape brandy, fortification is done all at once, adding all the brandy to the must and the solid parts of the grapes. Then, a light foot treading is performed again to ensure good homogenization of the liquid and to stop fermentation. The must and brandy remain in the lagar (wine press) for another day or two, being foot-trodden twice a day (10 minutes each time). It is then transferred to the storage vat along with all the press wine (we use traditional basket presses). The wines age in very old (over 100 years old) Port wine casks for an average of 6 years. Van Zellers & Co Reserva Tawny is a blend of old Port wines with an average age of 6 years, aged in very old wooden casks. Van Zellers & Co. Reserva Tawny is bottled to order, allowing everyone to enjoy this beautiful Port for many years, sharing with us the natural evolution of the wine over time. Complex aromas of dried fruit and a touch of honey and caramel, with a creamy toffee finish. Serve slightly chilled.
