Sumius
Sumius is a family project born in the heart of the Vinho Verde region, in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region. Here, the Atlantic climate, temperature variations, and soils of the Minho Valley give rise to wines of vibrant freshness and great elegance.
Created by Xavier Ferreira, Sumius stems from the desire to give voice to the region's historic red grape varieties, recovering old vineyards and wine styles that have made these valleys famous since the Middle Ages. The grapes are harvested from hillside vineyards and old trellises, many over half a century old, where varieties such as Alvarelhão, Pedral, Caínho, and Vinhão keep alive the memory of wines of yesteryear.
Alongside these classically inspired reds, Sumius creates an Alvarinho from vines around 30 years old, conceived as a pure expression of Monção and Melgaço: citrine color, aromatic intensity, mineral character, and firm acidity that promises excellent aging potential.
The range is completed with sparkling wines made using the traditional method, with prolonged aging on lees, which enhance fine bubbles, notes of brioche and dried fruit, showing how the Melgaço terroir is also a benchmark for Vinho Verde sparkling wine. Each Sumius bottle is an invitation to explore the most authentic Minho region in elegant reds, refreshing whites and gastronomic sparkling wines.
