ribafreixo
Ribafreixo Wines was born in 2007 in Vidigueira, Alentejo, and develops its wine-growing project at Herdade do Moinho Branco. The property is located next to Vila da Vidigueira and is part of 114 hectares, in a territory marked by schist soils and the influence of the Serra do Mendro. This relief favors the entry of Atlantic breezes and helps to create cooler nights, a relevant contrast in a warm and dry summer climate. The white component is of particular importance in the project. Antão Vaz, an emblematic caste of Vidigueira, occupies a prominent place, accompanied by Arinto, Verdelho, Syria and Alvarinho. Ribafreixo also cultivates Chenin Blanc, an exception in the set of castes of the property and a variety of origin in the Loire Valley. Among the paints are Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Míúda and Aragonez. The portfolio brings together different brands and expressions from the same producer, including Ribafreixo, Herdade do Moinho Branco, Gáudio and Barrancôa. The modern winery of the property was inaugurated in 2012 and the wine tourism project was later developed, reinforcing the connection between wine, territory and visit to Vidigueira. Ribafreixo's identity is strongly linked to the Alentejo and, in particular, to the Vidigueira sub-region. The work in the vineyard, the bet on Portuguese grape varieties and the combination of shale soils, thermal amplitude and Atlantic influence help to explain the diversity of wines produced at the Moinho Branco Herdade.
