In the 12th century, the Minho region was discreetly inhabited by the British. As a result of this settlement, legend has it that, in the middle of that century, the wine-growing activity was already of extreme importance for the economic development of the region, that the so-called British were already producing distillates derived from the Alvarinho variety.
