Quinta do Crasto Colheita 2005 75cl
Description
Designation of Origin: Port
Vintage Year:
The 2005 vintage year was characterized by an extremely cold and dry winter. During the spring, low rainfall levels were recorded, clearly insufficient to replenish the very low soil water reserves. The summer was marked by three heat waves (June, July, and the first week of August) that caused considerable stress to the vines, resulting in premature leaf loss in some.
Varieties: . The drought was alleviated by heavy rainfall that occurred in early September, which allowed ripening to be completed in a balanced way.
Winemaking:
The grapes, sourced from old vines, were transported in plastic food crates and subjected to rigorous sorting upon arrival at the winery. After gentle crushing, without destemming, they were sent to a traditional lagar (wine press) where they were foot-trodden by men at regular intervals. Subsequently, alcoholic fermentation was stopped by the addition of grape brandy.
Aging:
Aged in 550-liter national oak barrels for 18 years. It was bottled without any filtration, and may therefore develop a slight sediment in the bottle.
Exam Grade:
A wine with a brilliant amber color. Excellent aromatic intensity where soft notes of dried fruit stand out with a subtle touch of spices, harmonized with delicate notes of honey and candied orange peel. On the palate, it surprises with its balance, concentration, volume, and structure, composed of fine-textured tannins. A seductive and elegant wine that finishes complex and very persistent.
