Alumiada
Alumiada is born in Penso, in the municipality of Melgaço, from grapes harvested in its own fields. The project itself presents wine as a family, place and time wine, designed to preserve the freshness and identity of the territory. The name illuminated establishes a direct connection to the popular and religious tradition of the lighting of São Tomé, celebrated in a dressing. On the night of tradition, the community lights bundles of straw and bonfires, keeping a ritual transmitted between generations alive. This connection to the place gives the brand an identity particularly close to the local culture of Melgaço. Public information about the project identifies Carlos Vilarinho as a producer and Paulo Mendes as an enologist. The project has existed since 2022 and maintains a small-scale production. Alvarinho is produced in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço, a territory historically associated with the expression of the Alvarinho variety. Alumiada represents precisely this side of Monção and Melgaço in which wine, family, vineyards and local memory remain linked.
